Vintage Postcard 43505-B This tremendous dam was built in 1916. It is 1694 feet long and 318 feet high. The impounded flood waters back up over 40 miles forming the world's second largest acre foot lake. Known as the Rio Grande Project it was built by the Government under supervision by the reclamation Service at a cost of over &12,000,000. Built for power and irrigation purposes, its function served to reclaim over 200,000 acres.
