Jim Beam's Choice The Merry Lute Player Decanter Liqueur Bottle 1980s

Frans Hals the Elder was a Dutch Golden Age portrait painter who lived and worked in Haarlem. He is notable for his loose painterly brushwork, and he helped introduce this lively style of painting into Dutch art. Hals played an important role in the evolution of 17th-century group portraiture.

Hals was born in 1582 or 1583 in Antwerp as the son of cloth merchant Franchois Fransz Hals van Mechelen (c.1542–1610) and his second wife Adriaentje van Geertenryck. Like many, Hals' parents fled during the Fall of Antwerp (1584–1585) from the Spanish Netherlands to Haarlem, where he lived for the remainder of his life. Hals studied under Flemish émigré Karel van Mander, whose Mannerist influence, however, is barely noticeable in Hals' work.

The item measures approximately 8 1/2" high, 2 1/4" wide and weighs in at around 26oz

Please note: We specialize in vintage items that are at least 20 years old. Please remember that vintage is not new or mint. Unless otherwise stated, items will have age related wear; the older the item is the more the potential for more wear. These are usually items that are no longer manufactured or available by retail. The items are purchased from estate auctions, yard sales and antique stores; some items may need to be cleaned. If it is an item that we feel the “patina” is important, we will leave it to the buyer’s discretion to clean it. We do our best to describe our Items accurately with descriptions and photographs. If you have questions, please ask, we will do our best to address any concerns you might have. We do not smoke but the previous owner may have been a smoker. Everything vintage comes from an era when the vast majority of Americans did smoke.
